Furthermore, ONLY the team captain may bring up any disagreement.  Coaches or others will not be discussed with or heard.   It will be the sole discretion of the head judge to review any outside footage of the event in question.  HOWEVER, they are not required to do so.  By competing in this event you are submitting to subjective judgement in any and all calls by the floor judge, Head Judge and/or Staff of the event.

Judge’s Raffle

We can’t say enough about our judges!   They volunteer their time, work very hard, and manage to deal with the intense atmosphere of athletes in competition.   We also greatly appreciate all of the gyms that help support the Desert Games by encouraging their athletes to compete or judge.  Without these two groups there would be no Desert Games.  We want to thank our judges by giving them an opportunity to win something nice for their help and participation.  This is how it works:

    • Every judge will receive a shirt and a raffle ticket day of the event.
    • Winners will be drawn directly after the finals and before the awards. (must be present to win)
    • Grand Prize:  Barbell Weight Set from Rep Fitness
    • Consolation Prize: $100 & $50 gift certificate to Rogue
    • Other Possible prizes from sponsors.

Our goal is to have at least 34 judges to be able to schedule on/off shifts for everyone.

Athlete FAQ’s

Can I bring in food or drinks?

Yes.  All athletes will be allowed to bring enough for themselves ONLY, and may not be shared with general admission spectators.  No glass allowed.

Will there be space for gym tents?

No tents will be allowed in Convention Center.  The venue is indoors and you there will be plenty of room to hang out.

How many teams will reach the finals?

Top 10 teams in all divisions will move to the finals.

How are the WODs scored?

This is a version of Regionals / Games format.  This format awards top finishes.   The higher places receive more of a differential between lower places.

Teams that tie receive the same number of points. In events with time caps, reps that have not been completed are added to the time cap to create the final time. For example, hitting a time cap of 10 minutes with 4 pull-ups left would create a score of 10:04. In a select few events, additional tie breakers are built in. Tiebreak movements and intervals are unique to each event and will be detailed in the event descriptions.

What if there is a tie in the overall scoring?

Ties will not matter unless it determines the top 10 to move on to finals or a podium finish.  At that point, the team with the best overall finish will win the tie.

Example: Team A ties with Team B.  Team A’s best finish in any WOD is 4rd.  Team B’s best finish in any WOD is 2nd. Team B moves on to the final.  If both have an equal best finish, we move on to their 2nd best finish and so forth.

What if I have a question about my score?

Scores will based on score cards – NO EXCEPTIONS.  A team member must sign and validate the scorecard directly after the workout.  Do not sign the scorecard unless you agree with the score.  If there is a disagreement please bring it up with the head judge before you leave the competition floor.

ONLY the team captain may bring up any disagreement.  Coaches or others will not be heard.  It will be the sole discretion of the head judge to review any outside footage of the event in question.  HOWEVER, they are not required to do so.  By competing in this event you are submitting to subjective judgement in any and all calls by the Judge, Head Judge and Staff of the event.
